Gas Density Calculator — d = PM/RT

Unlike solids, a gas's density swings with pressure and temperature — which is why balloons rise on hot days. From pressure, molar mass, and absolute temperature, this tool gives the density directly.

Gas Density Calculator — d = PM/RT

d=PMRTd = \frac{PM}{RT}

How to interpret the result

Worked check: oxygen (32.00 g/mol) at 1 atm and 273.15 K → d = 101325 × 0.032 / (8.314 × 273.15) = 1.43 kg/m³ = 1.43 g/L, the tabulated value. Note 1 kg/m³ equals 1 g/L exactly.

Assumptions

  • Ideal-gas behavior
  • Temperature in kelvin; density in kg/m³ equals g/L
