Chemical Equation Balancer

Type any chemical equation with → or -> between reactants and products. The balancer finds the smallest whole-number coefficients and verifies every atom.

How balancing works

Balancing is bookkeeping for atoms: the same atoms must appear on both sides, because chemical reactions rearrange atoms without creating or destroying them. The balancer counts each element in every formula (handling parentheses like Ca(OH)₂ and hydrates), then solves the resulting system of equations for the smallest whole-number coefficients.

Tips

  • Use standard formulas: H2SO4, Ca(OH)2, Fe2O3.
  • Separate compounds with + and sides with -> or →.
  • Charges (e.g. SO4^2-) are parsed but balancing covers atoms; for redox, also balance charge.
