Mass Percent Calculator

Mass percent is the most foolproof concentration unit — just weigh things. Divide the solute mass by the total solution mass and multiply by 100. A 10% salt solution is 10 g of salt in every 100 g of solution.

Mass Percent Calculator

% solute=msolutemsolution×100\%\ solute = \frac{m_{solute}}{m_{solution}} \times 100

How to interpret the result

Worked check: 10.0 g NaCl dissolved in 90.0 g water → solution mass 100.0 g, mass percent = 10.0/100.0 × 100 = 10.0%. Solution mass = solute + solvent.

Assumptions

  • Both masses use the same unit
  • Solution mass includes solute plus solvent
