Molality Calculator — m = n/kg solvent

Molality counts moles per kilogram of solvent — unlike molarity it never shifts with temperature, which is why colligative-property calculations demand it. Don't confuse the two: molality uses solvent mass, molarity uses solution volume.

Molality Calculator — m = n/kg solvent

m=nkg solventm = \frac{n}{kg\ solvent}

How to interpret the result

Worked check: 0.500 mol of solute in 2.00 kg of water → m = 0.500/2.00 = 0.250 mol/kg. Lowercase m is molality; uppercase M is molarity.

Assumptions

  • Solvent mass excludes the solute
  • Solute does not dissociate for this bookkeeping (dissociation is handled separately)
