Zinc ion

Zn2+Zn^{2+}

Charge: 2+ · Type: Cation · Molar mass: 65.38 g/mol

Made of: zinc

How it forms

Zinc loses its two 4s electrons to form Zn2+, leaving a completely filled 3d subshell. This full subshell explains why zinc compounds are colorless and why zinc has only one stable ion charge.

Naming note

Zn2+ is simply the zinc ion. No Roman numeral is needed because zinc forms only this one ion.
